“Engage in genre analysis and multimodal composing to explore effective writing across disciplinary contexts and beyond”.
Genre analysis was a big part of this course. We did one for each of the four major projects prior to beginning our drafts. Genre analysis was important for us to complete so that we had a good idea of how to write our own draft work. In addition, we always discussed the genre analysis in class afterwards and each student gave their own opinions about the samples. This process was very beneficial because we all got to see a wide range of different views on the topics. I feel that my genre analysis skill has been consistent throughout most of the class because all I have to do is read the samples and follow the genre analysis questions provided.

Genre analysis was a simple and effective way for me to achieve my writing goals and become a better writer for engineering. However, I do not feel like I have achieved the second part of this course learning outcome. Although I have “Explore(d) effective writing across disciplinary contexts”, I have not done so “beyond”. During this semester I have only looked at the four main genres in this course and how to write effectively in them, I did not look at any genres beyond this course.
